ChamberJam Quintet

In Piazzolla’s Centenary year I’m very excited to present our Tango Quintet, with some fantastic programmers combining classic tangos with cutting edge compositions and arrangements by Tango master Marcelo Nisinman.

The contemporary tango quintet ChamberJam Quintet brings together the talents of the great Argentinian bandoneon player Marcelo Nisinman with those of some cutting edge European soloists: Natacha Kudtitskaya (piano) Alberto Mesirca (guitar) and Zoran Markoviç (bass). We met at various festivals such as Kuhmo, Oxford, Stift and Osnabrück and discovered a common love for tango, for exploring new repertoire, for the wonderfully original and brilliant music of Marcelo Nisinman, and  a real joy in playing together. Bringing together artists from 5 countries and very differing backgrounds, and I think it is indeed this passion, open mindedness, sense of adventure and the sheer love of playing together that has led to the group being acclaimed as “A group with the power of dynamite” (Süddeutsche Zeitung).

I’m happy to present our website. Here you will find reviews, videos, bio’s and much more!

The Financial Times in July ’15 wrote: “Rowland showed his versatility in a huge range of different works, culminating in a viscerally raw account of Piazzolla’s Cuatro estaciones porteñas, but Marcelo Nisinman’s sensual bandoneon and Zoran Marković’s feral double bass-playing were equal highlights there” .The quintet performs both traditional tangos and Marcelo’s brilliant re-compositions of old tangos and his new, tango inspired but uniquely personal works The group has performed for Dutch and Finnish radio and in June 2015 made it’s first recording, Piazzolla’s Angel and Diablo Tangos Direct to vinyl’ in For Berliner Meisterschallplatten in Berlin. This will be followed by a second Berlin recording with Marcelo’s arrangements, and a recording for the Dutch label Challenge with new works by Nisinman.

Here’s our recording of Piazzolla’s angel and diablo tangos, made in Berlin in June 2014, it is the first of two we recorded live, direct to disc at the iconic Emil Berliner studios.

The 2 programmes that we are touring this season are ‘Tangos del angel y del diablo’ and ‘Histoire de tango’, both are a colourful, contrasting and passionate mix of famous, not so famous and brand new tangos, with the works of Astor Piazzolla and Marcelo Nisinman taking a central place.
